The month of September has been set aside as Employee Celebration
Month, and the observance got under way Tuesday, Sept. 3 with a kick-off
event when those with 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, and 45 years of service
in 2002 picked up their service pins during a daylong celebration in a tent
on Library Lawn, and won generous door prizes, including Rolling Stones
tickets and American Airlines round trip fares.
Tuesday was also the day when this years winners of the Commodore
Awards were announced, as the winners, Howard Thomason of the Cancer Clinic
and Beverly Brothers of Athletics, were surprised in their workplaces. (see
story on back cover) The two winners will also be introduced an honored
at halftime of the Sept. 28 Vanderbilt-South Carolina football game, the
highlight of this years Tailgate event.
Over the course of the month, there will be several events scheduled, including
a special day of recognition for people with 25 years of service; lectures,
talent shows, and fun events; a fun run and walk sponsored by Health Plus;
and a reception with Chancellor Gordon Gee at the Chancellors residence,
Braeburn, for those with 30, 35, 40, and 45 years of service.
There are also, of course, several remembrance events scheduled for Sept.
11.
For more information on the ongoing plans to honor employees in September,
check the Employee Celebration web site at www.vanderbilt.edu/employee celebration,
or call Susie Lyons, who is coordinating the events, at 322-3911.
Here is the calendar of event for the rest of the month, updated through
press time.
