Other Health Plus activities fill busy March
Among the upcoming activities sponsored by Health Plus, the staff and faculty wellness program, are:
Walking Club
The Health Plus Walking Club is back for spring. Every Thursday from March 27 through May 8, meet at the shuttle drop off at Medical Center North and spend a few healthy minutes walking around campus with Lori Cowan, fitness coordinator at Health Plus.
Count on Your Health
Count on Your Health is a monthlong series of events that allow staff and faculty to engage in healthy activities or choices. Employees who haven’t had a Health Risk Assessment done in the past year are urged to have one, the Courtyard Café will be marking certain nutritious dishes with an easy-to-see logo, and there will be a series of Lunch and Learn sessions. Those who pick up a Count on Your Health calendar, fill it out as they complete events, and turn it in on April 11, are eligible for a prize.
Fitness Testing
Health Plus is offering free fitness testing to full-time staff and faculty. The test includes cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, muscular endurance, and muscular strength. The test takes about 45 minutes, and should be done wearing comfortable work-out type clothes. For more information, call 343-8943.

Healthy Benefits
The Healthy Benefits series provides informational sessions to allow staff and faculty to learn more about selected health topics. Each of the sessions will be held Wednesdays from 5 to 6 p.m. in 419 B-D Light Hall.
March 19—Elder Care: The Sandwich Generation, presented by Jim Kendall, a licensed clincal social worker with the Work/Life Connections-EAP office.
April 2—Making Healthy Meals in Minutes, presented by Stacy Kendrick of Health Plus.
April 23—How to Get and Stay Motivated for Exercise, presented by Colin Armstrong, a psychologist at the Kim Dayani Center.
Family Swim Night Scheduled
Vanderbilt faculty and staff are invited to bring their families to a free swim at the Campus Recreation pool from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 7. One guest is allowed per child. Bring your staff ID and your own towel. For more information, call 322-SWIM.
Massage Therapy
Massage therapy can give relief from sore, tight muscles, and can help you relax—just what the doctor ordered. Health Plus provides massage therapy every Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. The fee for this services is $1 per minute. Members pay the massage therapist at the time of the appointment. Call 343-8943 to make an appointment.
Babies and You
Babies and You, the prenatal program offered to full time faculty and staff and their dependents, has a new benefit with the new year. Following the birth of a baby, the parents will qualify for a free home visit by a registered nurse. This service is available for residents of Davidson and surrounding counties.
Co-sponsored by Health Plus and the March of Dimes, the Babies and You program focuses on early prenatal care, the prevention of birth defects and low birth weight. Sign up for Babies and You within the first trimester of pregnancy and your baby will be eligible to receive a $100 savings bond when he or she is born.

May 21—Postpartum Care, taught by Connie Dickson of the Women’s Education and Lactation Center. Noon-1 p.m. 415 Light Hall.
June 18—Fitness for Two: Exercising During Pregnancy, taught by Health Plus fitness associate Lori Cowan. Noon-1 p.m. 419 Light Hall.
July 16—Childcare: What to Look For, taught by Diane Neighbors, director of the Vanderbilt Childcare Centers. Noon-1 p.m. 419 Light Hall.

Yoga
Health Plus has two yoga instructors, Bliss Wood and Polly Burrus, and offers yoga classes Tuesday and Thursdays at 11:30 a.m. and Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:15 p.m. Beginners are welcome, and should wear clothes that allow stretching and movement.
