Health Plus is the staff and faculty wellness program for Vanderbilt. It has a fully-equipped fitness facility that may be used at no charge for full-time staff and faculty, and a professional team ready to assist with your health and fitness needs.
The first step to joining Health Plus is to complete a health risk assessment, which is a snapshot of your present health status, along with suggestions on what you can do to improve or maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Here are some activities sponsored by Health Plus in the coming month:

National Health and Fitness Day

Health Plus, as always, is right in the middle of an observance of National Employee Health and Fitness Day, which is May 21.
• Those who walk to or from the shuttle lots will receive free juice and bagels behind Light Hall and the Eskind Biomedical Library from 6:45 to 8:45 a.m.
• The Walking Club will have a final half-hour spring stroll, beginning at noon at the Medical Center North shuttle drop off.
• A Super Aerobics Class for Health Plus members will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at Health Plus headquarters in Memorial Gym. Four different classes will be combined, but don’t worry—you don’t have to stay for the whole thing.
• An apple cart will be rolling around handing out free fruit.
• A Health Plus scavenger hunt will invite individuals or teams to participate in finding interesting sites around campus and compete for prizes while doing so. To check out the game board, go to www.vanderbilt.edu/HRS/wellness/healthplus.htm
Other activities are also listed on the website.

Babies and You

Babies and You, the prenatal program offered to full time faculty and staff and their dependents, has a new benefit with the new year. Following the birth of a baby, the parents will qualify for one free home visit by a registered nurse. This service is available for residents of Davidson and surrounding counties.
Co-sponsored by Health Plus and the March of Dimes, the Babies and You program focuses on early prenatal care, the prevention of birth defects and low birth weight. Sign up for Babies and You within the first trimester of pregnancy and your baby will be eligible to receive a $100 savings bond when he or she is born.
Upcoming Babies and You classes are:
May 21—Postpartum Care, taught by Connie Dickson of the Women’s Education and Lactation Center. Noon–1 p.m. 415 Light Hall.
June 18—Fitness for Two: Exercising During Pregnancy, taught by Health Plus fitness associate Lori Cowan. Noon–1 p.m. 419 Light Hall.
